(Oil Price) – Canada’s Strathcona Resources supports MEG Energy in its process to explore potential mergers after MEG recommended that shareholders reject a $4.4 billion (C$6 billion) takeover offer from Strathcona. Last month, Strathcona, MEG’s second-largest shareholder with about 9%, made an offer to acquire MEG Energy for the equivalent of some $4.4 billion in cash and stock. A deal would have turned the combined company into the fourth-largest oil producer among companies using team-assisted gravity drainage recovery technology in the oil sands. It would also have also resulted in the fifth-largest oil company in Canada overall, Strathcona said, positioning it for an…
A few years ago, solar power became the “cheapest electricity in history”, but it still lacked the ability to meet demand 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. Since then, there have been significant improvements in the cost and performance of batteries, making it cheaper than ever to pair solar with energy storage using batteries. In our new Ember “white paper”, we present modelling showing that solar with batteries in major sunny cities, such as Las Vegas or Mexico City, can now get more than 90% of the way to continuous generation, at costs below those of coal…

But the explorers have also hit dry wells, prompting them to write off drilling costs as they learned more about the fields. “The government recognizes the complexities and high costs associated with the development of the Venus oil field by TotalEnergies,” Kornelia Shilunga, special adviser and head of…

Meanwhile, Platinum ETFs and institutional positioning have surged, with investment demand forecast to hit 688,000 ounces in 2025. Analysts at TD Securities warn that ETF accumulation is now draining the free float – setting up the potential for tightening liquidity and a short-squeeze. Oil fell after President Donald Trump signaled a decision on whether to strike Iran will be made within two weeks, easing concerns about an imminent attack from the US. Middle East oil flows continue through Strait of Hormuz despite conflict – Oil & Gas 360
(World Oil) – A week since Israel and Iran started to exchange missile barrages, oil tanker transits through the critical Strait of Hormuz have remained largely steady. A seven-day rolling average for oil tankers above 10,000 deadweight tons that sailed through the Strait — the passageway for the Persian Gulf’s energy supplies to the world — was approximately 42-to-45, according to vessel-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg. Total commercial traffic amounted to about 110 vessels with a small dip in inbound flows, mainly of bulk carriers. While most loading and discharge activities appear to be on schedule, discerning clear trends is…
