President Donald Trump’s administration is deepening its review of more than $15 billion in grants and other support awarded by its predecessor for upgrading power grids and manufacturing energy technology. Energy Secretary Chris Wright is ordering the stepped-up scrutiny, with a plan for case-by-case reviews to ensure projects that won funding under former President Joe Biden are financially sound, aligned with US economic and security interests and consistent with the Trump administration’s policies, according to documents seen by Bloomberg News. The reviews will cover projects for modernizing the power grid, making batteries in the US and building other energy technology…

The SAIC brand Maxus has successfully tested bidirectional DC charging for the battery-electric eDeliver 5 and eDeliver 7 vans, and the eTerron 9 electric pickup in collaboration with power electronics specialist Ambibox. A customer release with a ‘certified charger’ is said to be in preparation. Electric cars should not only absorb electricity, but also be able to supply it to buildings (V2H) or even to the public power grid (V2G) as required. For this to be possible, it is not enough for the respective electric vehicle to technically support this function. A suitable charging station is also required. Ambibox already…

Researchers at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) have developed a new approach to make solid-state batteries more powerful and suitable for everyday use. A liquid alkali metal anode plays a key role here. Researchers agree that conventional lithium-ion batteries will soon reach their limits. This is because their anode, usually made of graphite, can only store ions to a limited extent. Anodes made of pure lithium or the more sustainable and cheaper sodium offer an alternative; “However, in order to operate them safely, a solid electrolyte is required instead of a liquid one. A key problem…

BYD has partnered with Pakistan’s Mega Motor Company (MMC) and Hub Power Company (HUBCO) to launch the country’s largest EV charging network. The partnership will see around 128 DC chargers installed across Pakistan over the next three years, with 50 installations planned by December 2025. Despite ambitious government targets, EVs have so far made minimal inroads into Pakistan – with ICE vehicles and two or three-wheeled petrol vehicles still dominating the market. Part of the problem has to do with lack of infrastructure, with much of this being concentrated in urban areas. This announcement by BYD therefore marks a major…

Nvidia products are at the heart of the boom in artificial intelligence.Despite starting in gaming and designing semiconductors that touch many diverse industries, the products Nvidia designs to go inside high-powered data centers are the most important to the company today, and to the future of AI.Graphics processing units, designed to be clustered together in dozens of racks inside massive temperature-controlled warehouses, made Nvidia a household name. They also got Nvidia into the Dow Jones Industrial Average, and put it in the position to control the flow of a crucial but finite resource: artificial intelligence.Nvidia’s first generation of chips for…
