Aurora Innovation is temporarily changing its driverless trucking program in Texas after its truck manufacturer partner, PACCAR, asked the company to return a human to the front seat. What’s RelatedEarlier this month, Aurora made headlines when it began running fully driverless trucks between Dallas and Houston, becoming the first company in the U.S. to launch a commercial route without a driver in the cab. Now, the company says a person will sit in the driver’s seat, not to drive, but to observe, after PACCAR raised concerns about prototype vehicle parts. “After much consideration, we respected their request and are moving…
London, United Kingdom — British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has proudly described a new deal with the European Union spanning defence, security, and trade as a “win-win” pact that puts the nation “back on the world stage”. But nine years after Britain narrowly voted in favour of leaving the EU, the deal announced on May 19 has prompted a sigh of relief for some and stinging criticism from others, underscoring just how divisive the legacy of Brexit remains in the country. While many sections of British society have welcomed the agreement, Richard Tice, an MP for the anti-immigration party Reform…

Italian energy infrastructure and services provider Snam announced that it has raised $2 billion in a multi-tranche sustainability linked bond (SLB) offering, with the cost of debt tied to the company’s interim- and long-term targets to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its value chain. According to the company, the offering is the first-ever SLB linked to a net zero target across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions. Notably, while the volume of sustainability-linked bond offerings have declined significantly over the past several quarters on investor concerns over the credibility and robustness of the bonds’ linked sustainability targets, Snam…
Chemical compounds that efficiently remove CO2 from the air do not easily release it once captured, and compounds that release CO2 efficiently are not very efficient at capturing it. Optimising one part of the cycle tends to make the other part worse. Now, using nanoscale filtering membranes, researchers at MIT have added a simple intermediate step that facilitates both parts of the cycle. The new approach could improve the efficiency of electrochemical carbon dioxide capture and release by six times and cut costs by at least 20 percent, they said. MIT researchers added…
