Arkema inaugurated state-of-the-art dry coating laboratory at its Cerdato Research Center in Serquigny, France, dedicated entirely to advancing next-generation electrode manufacturing technologies. The facility marks a major step forward in the transition toward more sustainable and energy-efficient battery production.
The dry coating process represents a significant departure from conventional wet coating methods. By eliminating the need for solvent evaporation, it drastically reduces energy consumption and lowers the carbon footprint associated with electrode production. In addition, the simplified manufacturing steps make the process more resource-efficient and environmentally responsible. This approach aligns with Arkema’s broader sustainability goals and the industry’s growing focus on greener battery solutions.
Advanced Capabilities for Precise and Flexible Electrode Design
The new laboratory is equipped with two complementary technologies that enable versatile, precise, and high-performance electrode fabrication.
Direct Calendering: This method ensures the production of uniform, consistent electrode layers with tightly controlled thickness, enhancing battery performance and reliability.
Electrodeposition: This technique enables advanced material layering and customization, offering greater flexibility in electrode design and optimization to meet the evolving demands of electric mobility and energy storage applications.
Together, these technologies allow Arkema to push the boundaries of electrode engineering. They also open the door to more efficient and scalable production methods.
