Adani to Invest $100 Billion in Renewable Powered AI Data Centres Across India

• $100 billion direct investment to build renewable powered hyperscale AI data centres by 2035
• Expected to catalyse an additional $150 billion across manufacturing, cloud services and digital infrastructure
• Integrated energy and compute model positions India to secure data sovereignty and AI competitiveness

The Adani Group has announced a $100 billion plan to build renewable powered hyperscale AI ready data centres by 2035, positioning India to control its own compute infrastructure and compete in the emerging global intelligence economy.

The initiative aims to establish a sovereign energy and compute backbone capable of supporting advanced AI workloads while reducing reliance on foreign cloud infrastructure. The investment is expected to catalyse a further $150 billion in related industries, including server manufacturing, electrical systems and sovereign cloud platforms, creating a projected $250 billion AI infrastructure ecosystem over the next decade.

“The world is entering an Intelligence Revolution more profound than any previous Industrial Revolution,” said Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group. “Nations that master the symmetry between energy and compute will shape the next decade. India is uniquely positioned to lead. At Adani, we are building on our foundation in data centres and green energy to expand into the complete five layer AI stack focused on India’s technological sovereignty. India will not be a mere consumer in the AI age. We will be the creators, the builders and the exporters of intelligence and we are proud to be able to participate in that future.”

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group

Scaling India’s hyperscale capacity

The roadmap expands AdaniConnex’s existing 2 GW national data centre platform toward a 5 GW target. Major campuses are planned in Visakhapatnam and Noida, supported by partnerships with Google and Microsoft, while discussions continue with additional global hyperscale operators.

The Group is also deepening its collaboration with Flipkart to develop a second high performance AI data centre designed to support next generation digital commerce and large scale AI workloads.

Unlike conventional data centre expansion, the program integrates renewable power generation, transmission infrastructure and high density compute capacity within a unified architecture. Facilities will incorporate liquid cooling systems and high efficiency power design to support energy intensive AI processing.

Renewable energy as a strategic advantage

AI workloads are rapidly increasing global electricity demand. Adani’s strategy centres on delivering competitively priced carbon neutral power to meet this surge.

The platform will draw on Adani Green Energy’s 30 GW Khavda renewable project, with more than 10 GW already operational. The Group has committed an additional $55 billion to expand its renewable portfolio, including large scale battery energy storage.

Strategic connectivity through cable landing stations at Adani operated ports will enable low latency integration with global digital networks across the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Building resilient domestic supply chains

To reduce exposure to geopolitical and supply chain risk, Adani plans to co invest in domestic manufacturing of critical infrastructure components, including transformers, grid systems, power electronics and thermal management technologies.

This approach supports India’s ambitions to become not only a data hub but also a producer and exporter of advanced compute infrastructure.

Aligning with national priorities and data sovereignty

The initiative aligns with national industrial strategy and digital infrastructure goals. By integrating AI into logistics, ports and industrial corridors, the Group aims to create more efficient operations while strengthening data sovereignty and secure automation.

Dedicated GPU capacity will be reserved for Indian AI startups, research institutions and deep tech innovators to ease compute shortages and support domestic model development.

Talent and ecosystem development

In partnership with academic institutions, Adani plans to launch specialised AI infrastructure engineering programmes, applied research labs focused on energy and logistics, and a national fellowship initiative to address skills shortages.

Why this matters for global markets

As AI demand accelerates, control over energy supply, compute infrastructure and data governance is becoming a strategic priority for nations and corporations alike. India’s integrated approach linking renewable energy, hyperscale compute and domestic manufacturing could reshape global AI supply chains and investment flows.

For investors and corporate leaders, the initiative signals the emergence of a major sovereign compute ecosystem designed to reduce geopolitical risk, accelerate digital growth and anchor long term technological competitiveness.
