Netherlands-based bank ABN AMRO announced the appointment of Sandra Phlippen, who currently serves as the bank’s Chief Economist, as its new Chief Sustainability Officer, effective January 1.
Phlippen joined ABN AMRO in 2018, and has been serving as Chief Economist for the bank since 2020. She also serves as an external advisor to the Council of State, advising the Dutch government on national and European budget matters and as a member of the supervisory board of the CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis. Prior to joining ABN AMRO, she was economics editor at Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.
In her new role, Phlippen will be responsible for leading ABN AMRO’s Group Sustainability, driving the bank’s sustainability ambitions and integrating sustainability into core business operations.
In a statement announcing the new appointment, ABN AMRO said:

Sandra has made significant contributions to this area during her tenure as Chief Economist and as Professor of Sustainable Banking at the University of Groningen. Her extensive expertise in economics and sustainability, coupled with her leadership skills, positions her favourably to guide the bank in achieving its strategic goals.”
