(WO) – Perenco Congo has completed installation of the new Kombi 2 platform on the Kombi-Likalala-Libondo II (KLL II) field offshore the Republic of Congo, marking a key milestone in the redevelopment of the mature asset and setting the stage for new drilling activity beginning in 2026.
The project represents an investment of more than $200 million and is intended to boost production, improve recovery and extend the operating life of the field, where the last well was drilled more than two decades ago. Connection work is now underway, with commissioning expected in early March 2026.
Kombi 2 will serve as the central hub for a planned six-well drilling campaign starting this year, designed to increase output and optimize recovery across the KLL II development. The platform includes upgraded processing and utilities infrastructure aimed at improving operational efficiency and environmental performance.
New facilities feature enhanced water and effluent treatment capacity, expanded associated gas recovery and on-site power generation of about 8 MW from two gas turbines, supporting greater energy autonomy for field operations. The platform is expected to play a key role in sustaining long-term production from the KLL area through modernized infrastructure aligned with current operating standards.
Perenco has operated in Congo since 2001 and focuses on redevelopment and optimization of mature and marginal fields. The company said the Kombi 2 installation underscores its continued investment in extending the life of existing offshore assets and maintaining production from legacy fields through targeted infrastructure upgrades and drilling activity.
