Oil India Ltd (OIL) has said it has safely capped Well KSG#76 at the Kharsang Oil Field in Arunachal Pradesh after a gas blowout that occurred on October 30, 2025 during service operations.
OIL’s Crisis Management Team, along with experts from Cudd Well Control, USA, and GeoEnpro’s team, took charge of operations on November 1. The teams removed the damaged blowout preventer from the wellhead and subsequently installed a pre-positioned capping stack, which redirected gas flow to the top of the stack to ensure containment.
According to the company regulatory filing, the well is operated by GeoEnpro Petroleum Ltd, and the incident had resulted in uncontrolled gas release.
The company acknowledged the support of the Arunachal Pradesh district and state administration, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, and the local community.
OIL said the operation was carried out through coordinated planning and engineering execution. The next phases of the well-control roadmap will move forward under established protocols.
After the capping stack was secured, the BOP was closed, stopping the gas discharge.
