OpenAI is giving a free year of ChatGPT to service members and veterans who recently left the service.
The AI company’s veteran employees also created a list of helpful ChatGPT prompts.
The goal is to assist veterans as they transition out of military service.
OpenAI’s veteran employees want to help fellow veterans transitioning out of service, which is why they created a list of 100 prompts specifically tailored to them.
“For me, this idea started with how much I rely on ChatGPT every day to learn, to organize my work, and to think through decisions,” Vikki Lampton, an OpenAI employee, told reporters. “Using it has made me reflect on my own transition out of the Army in 2013 and how very different that experience could have been if a tool like ChatGPT existed back then.”
As part of the initiative, OpenAI announced that it is also giving US service members and veterans free access to ChatGPT Plus for one year if they are within 12 months of retirement or separation. Veterans also have a customized getting-started video hosted on OpenAI Academy.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, roughly 200,000 service members transition to civilian life each year.
The prompts, organized into pre-transition, transition, and post-transition sections, cover a wide range of topics, from résumé writing to navigating office politics. You can see the entire list here.
Here are a few of the prompts from each category that stood out. If you click through the prompt on the site, it opens ChatGPT and plugs it in, so you can try it out yourself.
