(WO) – Tenaris has been awarded multiple contracts to supply casing, tubing, line pipe and advanced coatings for the Trion project, Mexico’s first ultra-deepwater oil development, located in the Perdido Fold Belt about 180 km off the country’s coast.
At a water depth of 2,500 m, Trion is being developed as a greenfield project by Woodside Petróleo Operaciones de México S. de R.L. de C.V. (Operator, 60%) in partnership with Pemex (40%). The field is expected to deliver first oil in 2028 with a nameplate production capacity of 100,000 bpd, marking a historic milestone for Mexico’s offshore energy sector.
Under the Rig Direct® service model, Tenaris will deliver 12,000 tons of casing and tubing, including 1,600 tons in Super 13 Chrome steel grade, designed for enhanced corrosion resistance in challenging subsea environments.
The company will also supply approximately 16,000 tons of line pipe for flowlines and risers, incorporating specialized TenarisShawcor coatings — including the Marine 5-Layer Syntactic and Solid Polypropylene systems for flow assurance, and Fusion Bonded Epoxy, Three-Layer Polypropylene, and Liquid Epoxy coatings for corrosion protection. The line pipe and coating supply will be integrated with One Line® project solutions to ensure consistent quality and streamlined logistics.
“Trion represents a historic milestone for Mexico’s energy future, and we are proud to be part of it,” said Pablo Gómez, Tenaris Commercial Vice President in Mexico. “This project underscores the strength of our customer partnerships and our ability to deliver advanced technological solutions for the most demanding offshore environments.”
The Trion development highlights the growing role of advanced materials and integrated service models in enabling complex offshore operations. Tenaris’ involvement reinforces Mexico’s emergence as a deepwater oil producer and supports Woodside and Pemex’s long-term offshore expansion strategy in the Gulf of Mexico.
