The National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) has released Gulf of America Forward, a new report and digital platform that underscores the Gulf of America/Gulf of Mexico’s critical role as a global leader in offshore energy production, innovation, and national security. The initiative includes a dedicated website and a full report outlining how the U.S. Gulf supports low-carbon energy, job creation, and long-term economic growth across the United States.
Erik Milito, President of NOIA
“The Gulf of America is not a legacy asset; it’s a strategic platform for America’s energy leadership,” said Erik Milito, president of NOIA. “It gives our nation a crucial edge in a rapidly evolving global energy landscape. With world-class reserves, advanced technology, and a highly skilled workforce, it delivers secure, affordable, and lower-emission energy to Americans and our allies.”
The report highlights that the Gulf currently produces over 15% of U.S. oil, supports more than 400,000 jobs, and contributes $36 billion annually to the nation’s GDP. Offshore revenues also fund critical federal and state programs, including the Land and Water Conservation Fund, while providing some of the world’s lowest-carbon barrels through decades of technological innovation.
Beyond hydrocarbons, Gulf of America Forward spotlights the region’s emerging role in carbon capture and storage (CCS), offshore wind, and hydrogen development, positioning it as a hub for next-generation offshore energy solutions. The report also emphasizes the Gulf’s national security value, citing its infrastructure and shipyards as essential to U.S. maritime strength and energy independence.
NOIA calls for consistent lease sales, streamlined permitting, and forward-looking regulation to ensure the Gulf continues to power U.S. prosperity while advancing global energy innovation.
