Tampnet, the world’s largest offshore high-capacity communications provider, has been selected to deliver digital infrastructure for LLOG Exploration’s Salamanca deepwater development in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
The Salamanca Floating Production Unit (FPU) recently began producing from the Leon and Castile fields in Keathley Canyon, utilizing the refurbished Independence Hub—a previously decommissioned platform modernized to support long-term deepwater operations. Tampnet’s new connectivity system will provide real-time collaboration, remote monitoring, and data-driven operations across the field, reducing offshore exposure and improving efficiency.
To support Salamanca and other regional projects, Tampnet has expanded its subsea fiber-optic backbone by 140 km and extended its 4G/5G LTE coverage by roughly 10,000 km². The expansion strengthens the company’s role as a key provider of offshore digital infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico, where its network now spans more than 1,700 km and connects over 20 offshore facilities.
The network solution includes a combination of fiber-based connectivity and private 5G capability designed for high-bandwidth industrial applications. Tampnet said the system will support secure communications, integrate with FirstNet and AT&T for emergency response, and include LEO satellite redundancy for continuous operations.
Tampnet CEO Elie Hanna said the award underscores the company’s position as “the custodian of the Gulf’s critical fiber” and reflects growing data demands across the offshore energy sector. “We continue to invest in the infrastructure that enables the industry to fully embrace digital transformation, driven by AI, automation, and digital twins,” Hanna said.
