Indian electric vehicle manufacturer Omega Seiki Mobility plans to establish its first overseas EV assembly plant in the UAE. The company has chosen the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) in Dubai for the facility.

Omega Seiki Mobility will set up the EV plant in Jafza over a 42,000 sq ft area and use it to assemble two- and three-wheelers as well as to store and distribute components and spare parts. The company expects to start operations at the new site by the end of the year.

The Indian EV maker plans to invest 25 million US dollars (approx. 21 million euros) in its first overseas assembly plant over the next five years. The factory will give it access to new markets not only in the Middle East but also in Africa. Omega Seiki Mobility expects to create more than 100 jobs in the first phase.

Announcing the location of the factory, Omega Seiki Mobility Founder and Chairman Uday Narang said: “Jafza gives us unmatched connectivity to more than 2 billion consumers and a business environment that enables speed, scale and sustainability.” He added: “Through Dubai, we aim to make clean mobility accessible and commercially viable for partners across the Middle East and Africa.”

Omega Seiki Mobility produces a wide range of electric three-wheelers, as well as two electric trucks, an electric moped and an electric scooter. The company has not disclosed which models it plans to assemble at the Jafza facility for overseas markets.

Next year, Omega Seiki Mobility plans to launch a nine-metre low-floor electric bus as its first model in the segment, The Hindu Businessline reports. The model will feature a 190 kW motor and a 195 kWh NMC battery pack, which can charge from 0 to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes and deliver a range of 200 km. The company has set a target of 40 per cent market share in the electric bus segment.
