L’Oréal’s new Sustainable Innovation Accelerator, backed by €100M over 5 years, targets seven critical sustainability areas in the beauty sector.
In partnership with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), the program offers mentorship, pilot development, and potential investment.
Startups, SMEs, and established companies have until September 30, 2025, to apply for the 12-month accelerator focused on cutting-edge solutions like plastic alternatives, circular packaging, waterless products, and regenerative sourcing.
L’Oréal Groupe, the global beauty leader, has launched a €100 million Sustainable Innovation Accelerator aimed at scouting and scaling breakthrough sustainability solutions across the beauty industry. The initiative, run in partnership with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) and its Canopy innovation platform, will address urgent gaps in technology, materials, and systems critical to achieving L’Oréal’s 2030 environmental commitments.
“At L’Oréal, we have always embraced and nurtured innovation, co-creating with partners across our value chain to drive positive change within the beauty industry,” said Ezgi Barcenas, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer at L’Oréal Groupe. “We know that we have to be even more intentional in seeking, advancing and scaling pioneering solutions.”

Participants will enter a tailored, up to 12-month accelerator program that includes:
A 12-week group acceleration phase led by CISL
Up to 12 hours of one-on-one mentorship with industry and sustainability leaders
Peer-learning sessions
Potential co-development of pilot projects with L’Oréal, including commercial agreement or investment opportunities

The accelerator targets seven key innovation areas:
Low-carbon and climate-smart technologies
Water-resilience solutions
Nature-based regenerative practices
Alternative, biobased, or recycled ingredients and materials
Plastic-free and circular packaging
Circularity and resource management across products, packaging, and retail
Inclusive and sustainable business models with a focus on living wages, supply chain transparency, and consumer behavior change

Solutions may span from AI-enabled recycling design tools to biodegradable packaging materials, regenerative agriculture technologies, refill and reuse business models, and worker-focused climate adaptation solutions.
The first call for applications is open until September 30, 2025, with proposals accepted from startups, SMEs, and established enterprises globally.
