Hyundai and CaPow Partner to Eliminate Robot Charging Downtime

Hyundai Glovis, the logistics arm of Hyundai Motor Group, has successfully completed a proof-of-concept (PoC) trial with CaPow, an Israeli startup specializing in continuous power delivery for robotic fleets. The trial, conducted at a Hyundai Glovis facility in South Korea, demonstrated 100% uptime for Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) equipped with CaPow’s Power-in-Motion technology.

What’s Related

Traditional charging methods often require robots to pause operations, leading to downtime and necessitating larger fleets to maintain productivity. CaPow’s solution addresses this by transferring power wirelessly through modular floor antennas, allowing robots to charge while in motion. This approach not only eliminates downtime but also reduces the need for oversized lithium-ion batteries and frees up warehouse space previously occupied by charging stations.

Key outcomes from the PoC include:

100% uptime for AGVs and AMRs, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
15% reduction in fleet size, leading to lower operational costs.
Reclamation of 150–250 sq ft per charger, optimizing warehouse space utilization.

“The PoC with CaPow showcased the ability of Power-in-Motion technology to eliminate downtime by delivering energy en route, opening new possibilities for optimizing logistics operations,” said Nissim Hofi, Open Innovation Manager at Hyundai CRADLE Tel Aviv.

Following the successful trial, Hyundai Glovis plans to expand the implementation of CaPow’s technology across additional operations to further enhance automation efficiency.

CaPow recently secured $15 million in Series A funding, led by Toyota Ventures, to accelerate the global expansion of its Power-in-Motion technology.
