Intel’s shares surged 29% in premarket trading on Thursday after Nvidia said it would buy $5 billion of its common stock as part of a partnership between the chipmakers.
“This historic collaboration tightly couples Nvidia’s AI and accelerated computing stack with Intel’s CPUs and the vast x86 ecosystem — a fusion of two world-class platforms,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in a statement announcing the collaboration.
Nvidia shares were up 3% ahead of the market open.
