Delhi CM Rekha Gupta on Friday inaugurated a compressed bio-gas plant and an integrated CBG-CNG pump at Ghogha Dairy with a capacity to consume 100 tonnes of wet waste daily. It will generate four tonne CNG daily, which will be stored at the integrated pump.
The plant, set up by MCD in association with IGL, is one of the decentralised processing units being set up to process wet waste within localities and minimise dumping at landfills. More such plants are under construction.
The initiative is part of Sewa Pakhwada celebrating PM Modi’s 75th birthday. “Consistent efforts are being made to make city garbage-free by establishing biogas, wet waste, dry waste and waste-to-energy plants. They will also generate electricity,” said Gupta.
Urban development minister Ashish Sood said the Ghogha plant would utilise household waste. MCD commissioner Ashwani Kumar said MCD provided the land for this fully automated plant and the cost of Rs 30 crore was borne by IGL, which would sell the gas.
Indraprastha Gas Limited will complete a plant in Okhla by Dec and set up another in Ghazipur.
