Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that ONGC’s plan to bring an expert from the USA to plug the leak in Rig Well Number135, located in the Rudrasagar oil field at Barichuk, Bhatiapar.
Sarma on Tuesday announced a one time assistance of Rs. 25000 to each families affected by the gas leakage.
The one time assistance is for the immediate relief of the families who has to vacate their houses due to the gas leakage in the adjoining areas.
The chief minister also assured that he will take up the issue of compensation to the affected families with the ONGC and the Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri during a meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening.
The Chief Minister made it clear that this financial assistance of Rs. 25000 is being given from the Chief Ministers’ Relief Fund and that it is not connected to the compensation.
Leak occurred on June 12 at Rig No. 147(A) and Well No. 135, located in the Rudrasagar oil field at Barichuk, Bhatiapar. Despite attempts by the ONGC to plug the leak, it is still continuing affecting about 1500 people and 350 families have been shifted to relief camps.
Sarma said that efforts are on by the ONGC to plug the leak but despite best efforts the leakage is still continuing. He said that he is aware of the ONGC’s plan to bring an expert from the USA to plug the leak and that he appreciates the efforts taken by the ONGC.
