Air India and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
According to the official press release, the move is part of efforts to reduce emissions in Indian aviation and aligns with the country’s target of achieving 5 per cent SAF blending target by 2030.
The airline said that it is pursuing measures such as fuel efficiency, route optimisation, and joint research on SAF development.
The agreement will support Air India’s goal of meeting the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Net Zero by 2050 target and complying with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).
“The signing of this MoU with Air India represents a strategic step in India’s transition to sustainable aviation. With our ISCC-CORSIA-certified SAF from Panipat, IndianOil is ready to provide a sustainable fuel solution that will help decarbonise air travel,” said A S Sahney, Chairman, IndianOil.
Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson said that through this MoU, Air India is committed to support the Government of India’s initiatives to promote sustainable development in the aviation sector and to further its own sustainability goals to achieve the IATA Net Zero by 2050 target.
The MoU was signed by Shailesh Dhar, Executive Director (Aviation), IndianOil, and P Balaji, Group Head – GRC and Corporate Affairs, Air India, in the presence of IndianOil Chairman AS Sahney and Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson.
