Historic Leadership Shift: Petrobras now has a female-majority Executive Board—5 out of 9 members—marking the first time in company history.
Energy Transition Leadership: Laureano will oversee gas and energy, climate change, decarbonization, and renewables, reinforcing Petrobras’ net-zero 2050 goal.
Equity in Action: The appointment signals Petrobras’ commitment to gender diversity, far surpassing Brazil’s listed company average.
Petrobras has elected Angélica Garcia Cobas Laureano as Executive Director of Energy Transition and Sustainability, further advancing the company’s strategic focus on decarbonization and clean energy while achieving a historic milestone in corporate gender equity.
With Laureano’s appointment on July 11, Petrobras’ Executive Board becomes majority female for the first time, with five women now holding executive roles, including company President Magda Chambriard. The other female executives are Clarice Coppetti, Renata Baruzzi, and Sylvia Anjos.
“We are committed to increasing female participation in all sectors of Petrobras because we believe that a diverse team creates a healthier and more productive work environment. I hope we can inspire other women to aspire to leadership positions, especially in the oil and gas sector, which remains predominantly male,” said President Magda Chambriard.

According to B3’s 2024 “Women in Action” study, only 6% of the 359 companies listed on Brazil’s stock exchange have three or more women on their executive boards, and 59% have none. Petrobras’ new board composition thus sets a market-leading example.
Deep Experience in Energy & Gas
Laureano brings 45 years of industry experience, including 37 years at Petrobras, 21 of which were spent in leadership positions. She previously served as President of Gaspetro, a Petrobras-Mitsui joint venture managing stakes in 19 natural gas distribution companies across Brazil. Post-retirement, she consulted on multiple gas-sector projects and now leads Transportadora Brasileira Gasoduto Bolívia-Brasil S.A.

Accelerating Energy Transition
Laureano will lead Petrobras’ Executive Office of Energy Transition and Sustainability, established in April 2023 to consolidate the company’s decarbonization, climate, and renewable strategies. Her team will collaborate across divisions to scale investments in sustainable fuels and innovation.
“We will continue to invest heavily in decarbonization projects, the production of more sustainable fuels, and the diversification of renewable energy sources,” said Laureano.
“As leaders in the energy transition, we reaffirm our commitment to achieving net-zero operational emissions by 2050.”

Her term aligns with the current Executive Board and runs through April 13, 2027, following completion of Petrobras’ governance, compliance, and integrity protocols.
